I have done commercial (fashion and advertising) photography since 1984 but retired a few years ago. I still do assignments but, for the most part, concentrate on my own photography and consulting, lecturing and writing. My studio, Potkastudios (http://www.potkastudios.fi), has been a premiere Finnish advertising studio for a couple of decades and still exists today with some 10 members of staff. I have written a couple of books on digital photography and post processing and published one picture book ´Bel Aire´. Since the late 70´s I have exhibited my images both as a solo artist and in group exhibitions. My personal galleries and blog is at http://pekkapotka.com |
| My first ”real” camera in the 70´s, when I was still an amateur, was OM-1 and later I absolutely fell in love with XA. I went nowhere without my XA. During my professional career I shot mostly with medium and large format cameras at the studio. We were early adopters of digital workflow. I was doing digital post processing already during the early 90´s with the help of drum scanners. And we started digital photography in 1997 with three shot backs. Lately I have had both Nikon and Canon 20+ megapixel bodies as my personal equipment. But now I have found my lost love in Micro Four Thirds. I have used both E-P1 and E-P2 since the very day they were available. Last year I shot more than ever and it has been almost purely PEN stuff since summer. Especially E-P2 with it´s VF-2, which has given me back the fluidity of OM and XA times. It´s now possible for me to see and be more photographically free than with heavy equipment. For me raw megapixel IQ has always been less than the QI: Quality of Images. I must also say that I´m renowned as a perfectionist. I will never compromise images because of lesser technical quality either. | |
